psst. but i still wear them anyway.

not my regular comic, but i was asked to do an illustration to be featured on a website and they never ended up posting it. so i decided to.

i was inspired by m83’s moody music video for midnight city featuring some kids with powers. it reminded me how into x-men i was and how cool mutants with special powers is as a concept. i thought i’d take it as an opportunity to redesign x-men characters if they were moody tweens. i got kind of attached to their could-be stories and created a revamped storyline for them as younger kids. maybe i’ll continue dreaming it up and expand on it.

redid my tumblr layout with this sassy mermaid (i’m starting to think i have a thing for half shaven hairstyles). but i also made it available as a sassy print too.

when i was small one of my first and biggest influences was Disney’s The Little Mermaid. I became fascinated by the folklore in general, reading books and learning that the story of the mermaid was actually much darker. it was also the main reason why I grew out my hair to a redic length and i’d play out the scene where Ariel sings on the rock when i’d take a bath.

but anyway.

I’ve been cooking up some stories to go along with these wicked little girls so you might just see ‘em around.

Kinda glad I was never “cool”.

I watched In Time the other day. To fully enjoy your experience take a drink when anyone says the word “time”. You don’t have to really worry about paying attention anyway. The writers made sure to reinforce every character to talk about time and sometimes say it in a pun-y manner..

Anyway.

The costumes in the movie were really great. They were futuristic but minimal and classy as shit. I dug the waitress’ outfits.

The concept presents an interesting enough world to pull the weight of the cheesiness and make this still a fun movie. Later though, it kinda turns into a Bonnie and Clyde movie when the characters just start robbing banks and shootin’ cops.

So they rob banks in their bank robbing couture outfits. I really loved this chick’s business-in-the-front party-in-the-back jacket. Also their time was displayed on their arm so they’d have to cover it up to secure privacy but it gave everyone an excuse to wear awesome long gloves.

There’s a lot of unintentional comedy going on. One my favs goes like this:

JT and the girl he kidnapped (but then later falls in love and learns she enjoys a life a crime) just saw their mugshots on the news.

“It doesn’t say your wanted.”

“It doesn’t say I’m not,” she beautifully rebutted.”You’ve forgotten—I shot a cop.”

“Was that your first?” JT replied, pretty much confirming he’s a cop killer as well.

I  did enjoy this movie for what it was. But I mostly wish JT would return to music and bring sexy back again.

i just want to see venus flytraps more commonly.
